Coach Jayne Clem is entering her Ninth season as the Head Coach of the Lady Lions
Softball Team. She has compiled a record of 442-114. Last year’s record of 68-8 culmninated with the National Championship. Clem was
named the National Junior College Coach of the year and the ACCC Division I Coach of the Year. She has guided the Lady
Lions to four State Championships.
Clem came to Wallace State from Athens Middle School where she started the fast pitch
softball program in 1997 and also coached volleyball. Before coaching at Athens, Clem taught
and coached in the Arab City System for 14 years. At Arab, Clem led the Lady Knights softball
team to two State Championships in 1989 and 1992 and runner-up in 1990. She was named 6A
Coach of the Year in 1989 and 5A Coach of the Year in 1992. Her career record at Arab was
395-104. Clem had 15 players to receive scholarships to play softball in college at Arab. She
also coached Jr. High basketball and was the assistant volleyball coach.
Clem is no stranger to Junior College athletics. She played basketball at Calhoun
Community College in 1977-79. She was named Team Captain both years and was named to the
All-Academic Team. The two years that Clem played at Calhoun, the Lady Warhawks went to
the National Tournament and finished eighth in the nation in 1979.
Clem is a native of Athens, Alabama, and prepped at Athens High School from 1974-77.
Clem played volleyball, softball, basketball, tennis and was on the bowling team. She was MVP
of the volleyball and basketball teams her junior and senior years. She made All Area in 1976
and 1977. She was All-American her senior year in basketball. She received her Associate’s
Degree in Accounting from Calhoun Community College in 1979 and earned her B.S. in
Physical Education and Health from Athens State College graduating Magna Cum Laude in
1981. Clem earned her M.S. from Alabama A&M in 1991 graduating Summa Cum Laude. She
and her husband, Bobbie, live in Lester, Alabama.
