Coach Tracy Grindrod

Tracy Grindrod is starting his fourth season at Wallace State Softball and has helped guide the Lady Lions to the ACCC State Championship game three years in a row winning two. Last season culminated with a trip to the nationals where the Lady Lions won two games for the first time in program hisory. The 2007 team set records in wins - 64, and team batting average of .365. Grindrod has been coaching fastpitch softball since 1996, and has coached slow pitch dating back to 1988. While in the Army, he played both slow and fast pitch, and he quickly became a player-coach for teams while stationed in Europe. After transferring back to the United States, he arrived at Redstone Arsenal where he played and coached his team to two consecutive Post Championships.

His daughters got him started coaching girl’s fastpitch in 1996, and he has been doing so every since. Coaching competitive travel ball during the summer and fall, he has accumulated a record of 272-120-12, while at the helm of the Huntsville Sharks. His team won the 2004 NSA Class “A” National Championship for 18 and under, as well as the 2004 and 2005 18U ASA State Title for Alabama. The Sharks have been a successful organization that has lead to over 60 college softball scholarships for its players.

Grindrod is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). He is a graduate of Capella University with a Masters Degree in Education (Summa Cum Laude) and Athens State University with a B.S. in Education. He is retired from the United States Army where he was a First Sergeant and specialized in electronic maintenance. He is married to the former Darcie Musick and has two daughters, Anya and Ashley.
